As more and more energy is needed on today’s battlefields, it becomes increasingly essential to share knowledge and integrate resources to provide warfighters with power sources that are efficient, reliable and easy to transport and utilize. While the military continuously looks to technology to improve the warfighter’s ability to dominate the battlefield, conventional batteries are unable to keep up with power demands with estimates to reach $832.2 million in 2013.
New technological breakthroughs to power devices and machinery are at the forefront in the long war, with the key thrusts being to reduce weight, increase efficiency, and outlast mission durations all at the lowest cost possible. The Office of Naval Research is sponsoring projects to boost power density in batteries while the U.S. Army planners are also funding research into portable power generation. With President Obama earmarking $300 million dollars for the Department of Defense research in renewable energy, this timely event will examine the immediate need to utilize new emerging technologies to overcome current fuel consumption rates and address the need for improved large and small scale power.
IDGA’s 7th Annual Tactical Power Sources Summit is comprised of senior-level technology specialists from government agencies, research laboratories, and equipment suppliers with a range of responsibilities including:
